Saving and drafts
Version control: Managing drafts, revisions, and publishing workflows.
Save behavior
When you click Save & Get Code, GizmoSauce saves your widget configuration and makes it available to embeds that use that widget ID.
If you leave the editor before saving, your edits may not be published.
Draft recovery
If you’re logged in, GizmoSauce can preserve unfinished changes so you can resume editing later. If you’re not logged in, you can still experiment in preview, but you’ll need an account to publish.
A simple editor workflow that avoids surprises
Most widgets look best when you work in this order:
- Content: connect sources, set labels/copy, and confirm the data is correct.
- Layout: pick the structure (grid/list/cards), then tune columns, spacing, and sizing.
- Design: apply colors, radius, and typography last.
This prevents the common trap of perfecting colors first, then changing layout and having to redo everything.
Tip: if you’re targeting a specific page intent (pricing page vs homepage), pick a layout that matches attention span. For example, on pricing pages, fewer items and clearer hierarchy usually performs better than dense grids.
Live preview and device modes
Use the preview toggles to validate the widget in desktop/tablet/mobile. Mobile is the most important mode to verify because:
- Columns often collapse (e.g., 4 → 2 → 1).
- Tap targets need more spacing.
- Some widgets have mobile-only controls.
After you publish, also test on a real phone if you can. Responsive mode is great, but real browsers can differ in scroll behavior and viewport sizing.
Save, publish, and drafts (what’s the difference?)
The editor lets you experiment freely in preview. Your changes become “real” for embeds only after you click Save & Get Code.
If you close the editor without saving:
- You may lose changes.
- Your live widget may still show the previous configuration.
If you’re logged in, GizmoSauce can preserve drafts so you can resume later. Draft behavior is designed to protect you from accidentally publishing half-finished changes.
